…there wasn’t a Celebration called Christmas?
Just think, we could leave all the “tree business” to the local forestry department and agriculture specialists. Real or plastic and scented or plain wouldn’t even be an app on a Smart Phone, let alone another decision I would have to make. And we certainly couldn’t care less where our socks are…most don’t have chimneys anyway. Big Box Stores wouldn’t have to be concerned about staying open extra hours…they could just be open! We could truly have Winter Solstice, a day off or two, extend the weekend, and forget all that singing. We wouldn’t have to light up our houses or decorate windows in the cold or wish for snow. Who cares if a sleigh can make its way? Reindeer or not. Shopping! Who has a problem with that? If I want something, I just go and buy it; that dumb idea of naughty or nice wouldn’t even count. I mean, I don’t need a gift…besides that, I wouldn’t waste hours of my precious time standing in line trying to return it!
I think you get my sarcasm…we don’t need the Grinch Who Stole Christmas or Ebenezer Scrooge to do away with the Holiday. I listen to most of the “faithful” …naw it’s too much work! The kids are all grown up anyhow…I hate parties…let’s draw names…we gotta go to her house? I don’t eat ham, turkey, or whatever they are serving…egg what? Nog!
We wouldn’t be singing either…or listening to all that Silent Night stuff…I don’t think that means what they think it means…etc. etc. etc.
In all honesty…our Christmas celebrations are quite different than the original. Jesus didn’t come as Santa Claus.
Luke 2:11 “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
He came as God’s Redeeming Grace! Our world is broken, dangerous, dark and lonely!
I am so glad there is a Savior. I need one…if for no other reason than to save me from myself. Light of the World, Angels We Have Heard On High…Heaven and Earth Rejoice! God and sinner Reconciled! Sing Alleluia!
Christmas is a passion in the heart for those who, by their faith, found Him. You cannot help worshiping Him. His invisible Kingdom shouts Rejoice! Freely you have received, freely give. Jesus is the Savior and invites you to this Joyous celebration called Christmas!
